Hi, I'm Jo and my warmest welcome to you for visiting my website for Jo Campsall Nutrition and Health.

I am a certified Nutrition and Health Coach, an explorer of food markets at home and overseas, and I love getting out for long walks in nature in the English countryside (weather permitting!).  I am a bookworm at heart, who learned the hard way in mid life that my body is not simply a transportation system for the brain.  I had to learn how to take care of it.  Now approaching fifty, I am dedicated to educating and helping women address their health challenges, so that they can get thriving again and start savouring the moment, with restored energy to do the things they really love.

In my private health coaching practice, I bring my personal understanding of life transition, hormonal change, as well as health challenges through my experience of navigating chronic pain from an inflammatory condition (endometriosis).  I know all too well that the body gets very clear in its messaging when things have gone out of balance.

My life-long fascination with food, nutrition and preventative health was really ignited in me whilst living in Japan over twenty years ago.  I marvelled at the health benefits of my weekend visits to hot springs, and the rich, seasonal food culture.  I am also fascinated by the way menopause is viewed in Japan, with its deep focus on renewal and hormonal change being a natural aspect of life, (plus of course differences in food culture!).  On food, nutrition and lifestyle, all of this plays a role in where I now stand, and my passion for women's health and being a Nutrition and Health Coach.

My approach includes

My training and the health coaching difference

My training at the International Institute of Nutritional Health initially began as part of my own self-education, to help me get to grips with how to handle mid-life hormonal change and my health issues.  It was a game-changing decision for me, and I'm so glad that I took the leap of faith to go back to studying!  The more I learned about nutrition science, chronic disease, digestion, stress, and movement - and piece by piece, applied what I was learning to my own life - I very quickly saw noticeable, sometimes dramatic gains in my energy and health.  Just from making small shifts.  And I rapidly knew that I was becoming equipped with something far more profound - something I could carry forward to help other women who felt isolated and stuck with their wellbeing.  Women privately dealing with their own basket of health issues and symptoms.  I bring to my clients my dedication to sharing practical insights which work, a personalised approach to understanding your diet, health and lifestyle, and specialist coaching using cutting-edge behavioural science.

So, how does health coaching work and what can you expect?

  • It's a very holistic, evidence-based process, which centres what matters to you and the honest reality of your day to day life.
  • You can expect me to partner and work with you on your health priorities.  We will be setting small, achievable steps to get you to your goals throughout working together.
  • You will get interesting, relevant education and practical insights tailored to your goals and experiences of menopause (peri or post-menopause). We will consider how hormonal change could be intersecting with your stress management, blood sugar management, immune system, digestion and your overall health.
  • You will be working with a foodie, not someone pushing fad diets or 5-second magic solutions.  This especially relates to my training at IINH, which is a long-standing respected provider of education in health coaching and nutritional therapy, and has a cookery school integrated into the practical heart of its nutrition science syllabus (be still, my beating heart...).  You can expect me to share relevant recipes and food planning ideas!
  • You will get crucial support and accountability from me, but when I check in with you between sessions these check ins will be gentle.  I don't do boot camp approaches, I listen openly.
  • Over our time together, we will build your personalised food and wellbeing plan, unique to you.
  • You will be empowered, but not alone.
  • When you complete your time working with me, you will have confidence in the tools and knowledge that are specific to how you can best support your health through nutrition and lifestyle.
  • This final point is the big one.  You get to re-focus and re-shape the direction of your life so that it takes account of your need for self-care and health.  When you work with me, it means that you've agreed that your wellbeing is not a luxury item.

Health coaching changes lives and it has a potential role within everyone's health journeys.  For women who are struggling with the impact of menopause, it provides 1-1 tailored care, attention, a confidential listening relationship, and a space for healthier, flourishing outcomes.  But if you are in the process of looking for a health coach, it is so important that you work with a coach who has undergone fully accredited, rigorous training and has full professional insurance to work with clients (which I do).  My Diploma in Professional Nutrition and Health Coaching was undertaken at IINH (the International Institute of Nutritional Science), and is recognised by the UKIHCA (UK and International Health Coaching Association) and the PCI (Personalised Care Institute).  I have my professional insurance with Balens.

I am committed to ongoing CPD and education in my sector, basically because I'm a geek who will never stop learning.  Alongside my health coaching work on women's health, I also have a special interest in nutrition and mental health.  I hold Associate Membership with FAB (Food and Behaviour Research) to keep up to date with new research in this field.

As a certified Nutrition and Health Coach, I am bound by the IINH and UKIHCA's Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics.
